Who I Am

Bio

Jon graduated with honors and attendance excellence in June 2008 from Ashmead School of Massage (now Alterius) in Vancouver, WA. In addition to completing the massage therapy program, Jon also specialized in Sports and Clinical Massage as well as Spa Therapies passing the Aromatherapy Foundation exam.

In early 2008, Jon was also accepted as an intern with the Portland Timber soccer team as part of his clinic assignment. He continued working with the Portland Timbers on a volunteer basis during the 2009 and 2010 seasons. In March 2011, he became one of the official massage therapists for the Portland Timbers.

In July 2008, he began his second program in Sports & Clinical massage. Upon completing his second program in September 2008, he was hired on at Everest College as a Teaching Assistant and Resource Center Facilitator. Jon also completed training with The American Red Cross as a certified First Aid/CPR Instructor. He is also currently an on-call instructor at Alterius College, teaching Swedish and Deep Tissue Massage, Kinesiology, Eastern and Spa Therapies.

In November 2015, Jon became a founding member of MAP(Massage Advocacy Project), part of Working America. The goal of MAP was to educate massage therapists and the general public about the industry (or lack thereof) standards and working conditions of massage therapists.

The average lifespan of a massage therapist is roughly 2 years. On average, a massage therapist earns just over $22,000 per year working for an employer. Most employers do not offer any benefits to the massage therapist, so they often have to work 2 or 3 jobs to make ends meet. On top of all of this, the massage therapist must pay for their continuing education, licensing fees and malpractice insurance. Those fees add up to thousands of additional dollars to the therapist.

In January 2018, Jon co-founded the Pacific NW Continuing Education Resource Center (PNWCERC)with two other massage therapists; Janet Weiser and Andrew Hoffmann, both Licensed Massage Therapists. The primary function of PNWCERC is to offer affordable Continuing Education classes for massage therapists and continue the work of MAP by offering public workshops and massage therapist mentorships and scholarships. Jon, coming from a culinary, computer science and financial background, has a variety of talents, which he will put to use as a massage practitioner. Jon formed what he is deeming a massage co-operative. The purpose of this co-op is to offer a variety of services to their clients at a much lower rate. By doing this, the client can benefit from massage as part of their routine for healthy living.

In addition, Jon is also certified in Reiki and completed his training to become a Reiki Master. Jon is available for both In-office or Onsite services in Portland by advanced appointment only.

Jon is a current member of the American Massage Therapy Association and attends local chapter meetings.
